Quick Answer
There are fourteen cameras, two in each of the seven zones. Get behind each one unseen and interact with it. A camera that spots you disappears temporarily, then returns after you move away until you hear its click.
When a camera drops an Instant Photo, pick it up. Photos and camera icons help track the next search area. The Side Story begins when one of the cameras snaps Dylan; a known early trigger is near Zoe at the Watchtower, approached through the basement.
Do not read the camera’s disappearance as successful containment. If it froze Dylan, reposition, let it return, and find the alternate access path. The real completion action is an interaction from behind.
How Freeze Frame Starts
You can trigger the story by being photographed by a rogue camera. At the Watchtower, the area to the right of Zoe provides an early example; approach through its lower level.
The camera mechanic is consistent across the map even though each room or street offers a different route. Its forward cone is the hazard. Walls, rooftops, side doors, gravity routes and power-controlled openings let you move around that cone.
For a full cleanup, unlock traversal abilities from Jesse Sightings and keep Ground Slam available. Some late camera routes rely on movement tools or breaking an ability barrier. The camera list remains available after the main story, so revisiting a hard location later is practical.
Camera Location Checklist
Each of the seven zones holds two cameras. The landmarks below identify all fourteen search areas; once there, inspect each lens direction and find a rear approach.
Instant Photos for a zone help identify the camera scenes: Downtown’s are near the Oldest House entrance whiteboards; Central’s are in the FBC Field Office wardrobe room; Evacuation’s are in a raised portable FBC office; West Incursion’s are at the House of Mirrors base; The Park’s are in the FBC base; Underpass photos are at the Spire; and Unknown’s are at the Patterned Field Office map table.
The Underpass camera east of the vendor can be reached by using the bubble below the edge, clearing enemies and a Hiss barrier, and dropping through the opening. The other Underpass camera is in a tunnel south of Tubes Island; an office and a drop route let you approach it from behind.
In Unknown, one camera is at the western island laundromat. A rear garage route lets you approach after it respawns. The second overlooks a Resource Crate in the northern Mold area; enter its warehouse, clear enemies and reach its rear side.
| Zone | Camera A | Camera B |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown | Upside-down building, east Dense Patterning | Portable FBC office with glass wall and charged Power Core |
| Central | Watchtower below Zoe’s office | Warehouse rooftop, facing out of the doors |
| West Incursion Zone | North gravity-anomaly wall | Window-cleaning platform near Museum of Curiosities |
| Evacuation Zone | Rooftop south of Sinkhole, small power-core structure | Apartment roof south of Railyard Street Station, by Mold wall |
| The Park | Window-cleaning platform outside south Sewer entrance | Inside Nomad Avenue Station, right of stairs |
| Underpass | Island east of Underpass vendor | Eastern side of island south of Tubes Island |
| Unknown | Mold-covered construction building, looking through fungus | Wear’Em & Wash’Em laundromat, street-level entrance |
Step-by-Step Containment Method
Use the same short decision process at every camera, then adapt the route to the zone’s geometry.
A useful trick is to solve the traversal route while the camera is absent after a failed attempt. You can inspect doors and ledges without being frozen. Once you understand the path, move away for the click, then retrace that path on the successful attempt.
- Find the view direction. Stop outside its cone and identify which wall or rooftop reaches the space behind it.
- Trace a rear route. Check side doors, stairs, rooftop gaps, gravity surfaces and power or ability barriers.
- Reset if photographed. Move away until the camera clicks back into place; do not continue to the empty pedestal.
- Approach from behind. Retrace the safe route and interact with the camera before crossing its front view.
- Collect its clue. Pick up any Instant Photo and check the map before moving to the next zone.
Why a Camera Keeps Disappearing
Being seen triggers the camera’s defensive effect; it is not a pickup animation. Move away within the area until you hear the respawn cue, then return by the rear route.
Do not run straight at the camera as soon as it respawns. The same sight line will freeze Dylan again. Take note of where its body points, and approach from cover or a different elevation. If a rear door is locked, look for its power source or another entrance on the side of the building.
Some camera positions are gated by traversal skills. If you cannot reach a roof or break the barrier above it, continue the relevant Jesse Sightings or Resonant progression and come back. The list is not missable.
Finale and Completion Check
After containing all fourteen cameras, the final activity takes you to the FBC encampment near the Oldest House for another sequence of unseen camera approaches.
Treat the finale as an application of the same rule: read each field of view, use nearby cover and approach from an angle outside the lens. The quest completes after this closing sequence, not merely when the collection counter reaches fourteen.
Freeze Frame is one of the altered-item Side Stories counted toward the Panopticon Intern trophy or achievement. It is separate from The Complete Set, which follows altered speakers. Both can be tracked during a zone sweep, but their icons, interaction rules and finales differ.
- The Complete Set speaker locations — A separate altered-item collection route.
- Laundromat Puzzle solution — A fixed room puzzle in Central.
